Ponnam Prabhakar urges Congress leaders to boost graduate voter registration

Hyderabad: Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has urged Congress leaders and workers to intensify graduate voter registration and secure victory for the party in the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar graduates’ MLC election. He set November 6 as the deadline to register all eligible graduates. The Congress has nominated party spokesperson Sama Ram Mohan Reddy as its candidate.

Prabhakar, the minister in charge of Hyderabad district, addressed an election preparatory meeting at Red Rose Garden in Nampally. He said the contest carried significant political importance for the Congress in Hyderabad. Moreover, victory would help the party demonstrate its strength in future elections across the region.

The party selected Sama Ram Mohan Reddy following consultations with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Pradesh Congress Committee president Mahesh Kumar Goud and senior leaders. Prabhakar urged every leader and worker to take responsibility for the candidate’s victory. He also called for coordinated campaigning throughout the constituency.

With the festival period over, party workers should begin full-scale field activities from the following day, he said. They must identify eligible graduates working in government and private schools, colleges and other institutions. In particular, the minister stressed outreach to employees, teachers, lawyers and other eligible graduates.

Booth presidents, block presidents, leaders of affiliated organisations and booth-level agents must coordinate their efforts across Hyderabad constituencies. Meanwhile, senior leaders will receive responsibilities to oversee registration across Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Mahabubnagar districts. They will monitor daily progress in coordination with PCC leaders.

Graduate voter registration and Congress campaign strategy

Prabhakar said he, Minister Azharuddin and other leaders would regularly review field activities. The party plans to accelerate registration through direct outreach and coordinated supervision. He also urged leaders to explain the state government’s achievements and understand graduates’ concerns to build support for the Congress.

The minister said the Congress government had provided thousands of government jobs to unemployed youth since taking office in Telangana. In addition, the government had taken steps to address employees’ problems across various departments. Party leaders should communicate these achievements to graduates and listen to their concerns, he said.

Prabhakar also said the government was spending thousands of crores of rupees on Hyderabad’s overall development. Therefore, he urged party workers to take development initiatives to the public. He said he would tour Jubilee Hills and other constituencies with party leaders over the next four to five days to speed up voter registration.

Several senior leaders attended the meeting, including Minister Azharuddin, government adviser V. Hanumantha Rao, MP Mallu Ravi and Rajya Sabha member Anil Kumar Yadav. Congress MLC candidate Sama Ram Mohan Reddy also participated, along with MLAs Naveen Yadav and Sri Ganesh, and MLC Balamuri Venkat.

Congress presidents from Khairatabad, Secunderabad and Hyderabad districts also attended. Corporation chairpersons, in-charges from 15 Assembly constituencies, PCC coordinators and leaders of party frontal organisations and affiliated groups were present.
