Prayagraj: Union Minister Sanjay Seth highlighted the role of indigenous weapons in strengthening India’s military capability at the North Tech Symposium 2026 in Prayagraj.
He said Operation Sindoor demonstrated the effectiveness of domestically developed systems. Moreover, he credited defence forces for their courage and precision in eliminating terror threats.
The Minister stated that India’s military strength was built through its defence industries. He added that coordinated efforts by the government, public sector units, private companies, and innovators had driven self-reliance.
He emphasised that MSMEs formed the backbone of the economy. At the same time, startups were emerging as key drivers of growth and innovation in defence manufacturing.

Indigenous weapons boost defence self-reliance and innovation
Sanjay Seth said the success of indigenous weapons reflected the country’s resolve to achieve self-reliance. Therefore, he urged industries to stay ahead of rapid technological changes and global uncertainties.
He noted that technologies could become obsolete quickly. Hence, industries must innovate continuously and adopt forward-looking approaches.
The Minister also pointed to initiatives such as the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor. He said these efforts were strengthening the defence ecosystem and encouraging private participation.
He added that record defence production and exports showed India’s growing capability. Furthermore, he said the country was committed to protecting its sovereignty while advancing its technological edge.
Officials at the event stressed the need for closer collaboration between the armed forces and industry. This partnership, they said, would help develop solutions for emerging operational challenges.
The three-day symposium brought together industry leaders, startups, academia, and defence personnel. It showcased advanced systems including drones, unmanned vehicles, and surveillance technologies.
