Jammu: Ministry of Mines launched the second tranche of limestone block auctions in Srinagar to strengthen transparent and investor-friendly mineral development in Jammu & Kashmir. The initiative marked another step toward structured resource utilisation in the Union Territory.

Shri Piyush Goyal, Secretary, Ministry of Mines, formally launched the tranche. He said reforms have simplified procedures and improved ease of doing business in the mining sector. Moreover, he stressed that Jammu & Kashmir holds strong mineral potential. Therefore, the auctions will support economic growth and employment generation.

A total of 12 limestone blocks were offered under Tranche II. These blocks are located in Anantnag, Rajouri and Poonch districts. In addition, the list includes newly identified blocks and re-auctioned blocks under the second attempt. The process follows the Mineral (Auction) Rules, 2015, as amended.

Limestone block auctions aim to boost investment and growth

The government conducted the auction under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957. Consequently, the process ensures regulatory compliance and transparency. The blocks fall under G3 and G4 exploration stages of the UNFC classification.

MECL presented mineral potential details, while SBICAPs outlined the tender framework. Additionally, MSTC demonstrated the online bidding platform.

During the event, Smt. Farida M. Naik encouraged bidders to explore regional opportunities. She said the auctions would support economic development and job creation. Therefore, the initiative aligns with broader development goals for the region.
