Kavitha Maoist remark sparks political debate in Telangana

Hyderabad: Kavitha Maoist remark triggered political discussion after Telangana Rakshana Sena chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha claimed that Maoists were also present in her party during a workers’ programme in Mancherial district.

The remark came during the party’s ‘Boggu Baayi’ programme at the RK-7 underground mine in Srirampur on Monday. Kavitha made the statement while addressing coal workers after a tense confrontation with police near the mine premises.

Police stopped Kavitha, party workers and trade union leaders from entering the mine. However, after a brief standoff, the group moved past the gates and conducted a meeting near the mining site.

During her speech, Kavitha accused the Singareni management of failing to provide basic facilities to workers. She alleged that employees faced difficulties, including the lack of drinking water and harassment at workplaces.

Kavitha Maoist remark comes amid focus on former rebels

Rejecting claims that Maoist influence had disappeared, Kavitha said Maoists continued to exist and added that members with such backgrounds were present in her party as well.

She warned that her party would not remain silent if workers faced injustice. She also said legal measures would be taken whenever necessary to protect workers’ rights.

The statement gained significance because it came weeks after Kavitha visited former senior Maoist leader Thippiri Thirupathi alias Devji. He recently surrendered and joined the mainstream after spending nearly four decades underground.

Another former Maoist leader, Malla Raji Reddy alias Sangram, also resurfaced recently. Their appearances have led to speculation about possible future political roles and renewed discussion around former Maoist leaders in public life.
