KTR attacks Congress over farmer declaration at Warangal meeting

Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao accused the Congress government of failing to implement promises made under the farmer declaration, alleging that farmers were misled ahead of elections.

He made the remarks while addressing the ‘Rythu Sangrama Sadasu’ organised by the BRS in Warangal on Wednesday. He said the meeting aimed to highlight issues faced by farmers and expose what he described as the government’s inaction.

KTR stated that Congress leaders had announced the farmer declaration in Warangal four years ago with several commitments. However, he alleged that these promises were not fulfilled after the party came to power. He added that farmers who trusted the assurances were now facing financial and operational difficulties.

He further criticised the government for failing to implement key assurances within the promised 100-day period. According to him, delays in delivering benefits had increased distress among farmers across the state.

KTR questions promises under farmer declaration

KTR questioned the status of 34 assurances listed in the farmer declaration. He alleged that the government did not provide clarity on their implementation and failed to extend adequate support to cultivators.

He also criticised the Congress for its earlier promise of ₹15,000 per acre assistance. He said the government had attacked the previous BRS scheme that offered ₹10,000 per acre, yet did not deliver the enhanced support after assuming office.

In addition, he targeted Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy over frequent visits to Delhi, questioning their impact on farmers’ welfare. He claimed that such engagements did not translate into tangible benefits for the agricultural sector in Telangana.

KTR also warned that delays in paddy procurement could intensify public dissatisfaction. He said farmers were already facing uncertainty due to procurement issues and lack of timely intervention by authorities.

He asserted that political movements originating from Warangal would challenge policies perceived as anti-farmer. He added that the BRS would continue to raise these issues at various forums.

The meeting focused on mobilising support among farmers while drawing attention to pending demands and policy concerns in the agriculture sector.
