LPG price hike rollback: KTR demands immediate withdrawal on May Day

Hyderabad: BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao demanded an immediate LPG price hike rollback, criticising the Centre’s fuel pricing decisions during May Day celebrations at Telangana Bhavan.

He said the increase imposed a heavy burden on workers and economically weaker sections. The demand came amid growing criticism of the Union government’s handling of fuel prices.

KTR alleged that LPG cylinder prices had risen by nearly ₹1,000 in a single revision. He described the move as unprecedented and harmful to vulnerable groups. According to him, the sharp increase reflected policies that failed to protect common citizens.

He warned that commercial LPG cylinders had reached about ₹3,315 in Hyderabad. Therefore, he said hotels, small businesses and self-employed workers would face serious financial strain. He added that rising fuel costs could directly push up food prices across the state.

LPG price hike rollback demand highlights inflation risks

KTR said the situation could lead to closures in the hospitality sector. As a result, lakhs of jobs could be affected if establishments struggle to manage rising costs. He noted that continued price hikes would worsen economic pressure on small enterprises.

He also criticised the Centre’s taxation policies on fuel. He linked these measures to increasing inflation and the weakening rupee. Furthermore, he called for a united response from opposition parties across the country.

The BRS leader urged the Union government to withdraw the increased LPG, petrol and diesel prices without delay. He maintained that an LPG price hike rollback was essential to reduce the burden on the public and stabilise costs.
