New Delhi: Centre on Wednesday said LPG supply measures remained stable despite the evolving West Asia crisis and assured citizens that adequate stocks of petrol, diesel and LPG were available across the country.
During an inter-ministerial media briefing in New Delhi, officials from the Ministries of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Ports, Shipping and Waterways reviewed fuel availability, maritime safety and energy management measures.
The government advised citizens not to panic-buy fuel and urged people to rely only on official information. It also encouraged LPG consumers to use digital booking platforms and switch to alternate fuels such as PNG and electric cooking systems wherever possible.
Officials said the government continued supplying 100 percent domestic LPG, domestic PNG and CNG transport requirements. Authorities also prioritised LPG supply to hospitals, educational institutions and key industrial sectors.
Centre said online LPG bookings touched nearly 99 percent across the industry. Moreover, Delivery Authentication Code-based deliveries increased to about 96 percent to prevent diversion of cylinders.
During the last three days, oil companies delivered about 1.34 crore LPG cylinders against bookings of nearly 1.32 crore cylinders. No dry-outs were reported at LPG distributorships.
LPG supply measures boost PNG transition
Officials said more than 58,500 PNG consumers surrendered LPG connections through the MYPNGD.in portal till May 20. Since March 2026, around 7.64 lakh PNG connections were gasified, while infrastructure for another 2.81 lakh connections was created.
The government also extended National PNG Drive 2.0 till June 30 to accelerate PNG expansion. In addition, 22 States and Union Territories received extra commercial LPG allocations linked to PNG reforms.
Authorities intensified enforcement drives against hoarding and black marketing across the country. During the last three days, officials conducted more than 5,000 raids and inspected over 3,100 retail outlets and LPG distributorships.
Oil companies imposed penalties on 463 LPG distributorships and suspended 81 agencies for violations.
Centre said all refineries continued operating at high capacity with adequate crude inventories. It also maintained sufficient petrol and diesel stocks at retail outlets nationwide.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways said all Indian seafarers in the Gulf region remained safe. No incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels or foreign ships carrying Indian crew were reported during the last 72 hours.
Officials said the Directorate General of Shipping facilitated the repatriation of more than 3,316 Indian seafarers so far, including 99 during the last 72 hours.
