Hyderabad: BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Thursday directed officials and teachers to improve academic standards and strengthen the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Gurukul education system across Telangana. He said the government aimed to build a stronger MJP brand image through quality education and better student outcomes.
The minister reviewed Class 10 and Intermediate examination results of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Gurukul schools during a meeting in Hyderabad. He congratulated principals of schools that achieved 100 per cent pass results. However, he warned institutions that recorded poor performance and asked them to conduct detailed self-assessments before the next academic year.
Ponnam Prabhakar said Gurukul schools should emerge as leading educational institutions in Telangana. He instructed teachers to work collectively and focus on academics, sports, cultural activities, science and artificial intelligence education.
He stated that the government had improved infrastructure and student facilities in Gurukul institutions. Earlier, many schools functioned in private buildings. Now, the government has expanded infrastructure and increased support for food, mess charges and student welfare facilities.
The minister also urged teachers to guide students with discipline and social responsibility. In addition, he expressed concern over student suicides linked to minor issues and directed teachers to improve counselling and emotional support systems.
Gurukul schools record strong examination performance
Ponnam Prabhakar said Gurukul institutions achieved a 98.45 per cent pass rate in Class 10 examinations. According to officials, 9,788 students scored more than 500 marks, while 204 schools secured 100 per cent results.
At the same time, he warned 65 schools that showed weak performance and directed officials to improve standards immediately. He also asked teachers to focus on Telugu after several students failed in the subject.
The minister said Intermediate second-year pass percentage reached 90.31 per cent, while vocational second-year results stood at 97.72 per cent. Intermediate first-year pass percentage was 85.80 per cent and vocational first-year results reached 95.81 per cent.
Further, he announced that computer laboratories would be established in every Gurukul school. He also directed officials to prepare students for NEET, EAMCET and other competitive examinations from Class 8 onwards.
Ponnam Prabhakar said schools should conduct regular parent-teacher meetings and publicise student achievements widely to strengthen the MJP brand image across Telangana.
