MoD signs defence contracts worth Rs 4,666 crore for carbines and torpedoes

New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence on December 30, 2025, signed defence contracts worth Rs 4,666 crore for the procurement of Close Quarter Battle Carbines and Heavy Weight Torpedoes to enhance combat capability.

The contracts were signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh at South Block in New Delhi. According to the ministry, the acquisitions will strengthen frontline capabilities of both the Indian Army and the Indian Navy. At the same time, they support the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India objectives.

Under the first contract, the Ministry of Defence signed an agreement worth Rs 2,770 crore for the supply of more than 4.25 lakh Close Quarter Battle Carbines. Bharat Forge Ltd and PLR Systems Pvt Ltd will deliver the carbines along with associated accessories. The weapons will equip units of the Indian Army and the Indian Navy.

The ministry said the induction of the CQB Carbine marked the replacement of legacy small arms with modern indigenous systems. As a result, infantry units will gain improved lethality during close-quarter engagements.

The CQB Carbine forms a key part of the modern infantry arsenal. Its compact design and high rate of fire provide an operational advantage in confined combat environments. Moreover, the project highlights collaboration between the government and private industry. It is also expected to generate employment and strengthen defence MSMEs through component manufacturing and raw material supply.
