New Delhi: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari conducted a highway projects review covering 4,931 km in Telangana, 2,035 km in Jammu and Kashmir, and 804 km in Ladakh during separate meetings in New Delhi. He directed officials to speed up project execution while maintaining high standards of quality, safety and accountability.
Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Harsh Malhotra attended the meetings. The review followed feedback received through media reports, social media platforms and inputs from officials of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, NHAI, NHIDCL and project contractors.
Gadkari examined the progress of ongoing highway works, maintenance activities and measures aimed at improving infrastructure performance. He also asked agencies to strengthen monitoring systems and ensure timely completion of projects.
Further, the Minister called for the adoption of advanced construction technologies and industry best practices. He said durable road assets and better riding quality are essential for long-term highway performance.
Monsoon readiness central to highway projects review
In addition, Gadkari stressed the need for comprehensive monsoon preparedness across all project stretches. He instructed officials to improve drainage systems, undertake slope protection works and deploy rapid-response mechanisms to handle weather-related disruptions.
According to the Minister, these measures will help maintain uninterrupted connectivity and improve road safety during the monsoon season. He added that resilient highway infrastructure supports economic activity, tourism growth and commuter convenience.
Moreover, the highway projects review focused on improving asset durability and strengthening regional connectivity. Gadkari reiterated that well-maintained highways play a key role in supporting development and transportation efficiency.
He reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to building world-class highway infrastructure through quality assurance, modern engineering solutions and timely project delivery across the country.
