Hyderabad: Minister Ponnam Prabhakar reviewed paddy procurement arrangements in Husnabad constituency after arrivals increased sharply at procurement centres. He held a teleconference with district officials and directed them to prevent inconvenience to farmers. Moreover, he instructed authorities to speed up procurement operations.
He conducted the review with additional collectors from Siddipet, Karimnagar and Hanumakonda districts. In addition, RDOs, DSO officials, civil supplies officers, MROs, agriculture officials and procurement centre in-charges attended the meeting. The minister asked all departments to coordinate effectively.
He warned officials against negligence at procurement centres. Furthermore, he told them to ensure smooth operations at every level. He stressed that delays would not be tolerated.
Officials must maintain sufficient gunny bags at all centres, he said. In addition, they should keep tarpaulins ready to protect paddy from evening rains. The government will also purchase rain-affected paddy, he clarified.
Paddy procurement arrangements strengthened across key centres
Ponnam Prabhakar directed five-member village committees to monitor paddy procurement arrangements regularly. These committees must coordinate with local officials and report issues immediately. Consequently, disruptions at village, mandal and district levels should be prevented.
He instructed officials to avoid delays at rice mills. Moreover, control rooms must closely monitor every procurement centre. DTC officials should appoint one MVI officer in each district to manage vehicle movement.
Authorities must ensure there is no shortage of labourers. Meanwhile, Husnabad market yard is receiving large quantities of paddy daily. Therefore, the minister asked officials to deploy additional weighing teams.
Five teams are already working at the market yard. However, he said additional staff may be required due to rising arrivals. He emphasised timely action to manage the increased inflow.
Officials were told to remain alert at Akkannapet, Husnabad town, Shanigaram, Koheda and Baswapur centres. In Shanigaram, three to four lorries arrive daily. Therefore, authorities should arrange extra lorries or tractors if necessary.
Finally, the minister announced that he will review paddy procurement arrangements through daily teleconferences. He said continuous monitoring will help address farmer concerns. As a result, procurement operations will remain efficient and responsive.
