New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday ordered a unified monitoring mechanism during the CCS West Asia meeting. The mechanism will track developments linked to the ongoing West Asia conflict. Moreover, he directed Ministries to coordinate closely and protect citizens’ interests.
The Prime Minister chaired the fourth special Cabinet Committee on Security meeting on the conflict. During the meeting, Cabinet Secretary T. V. Somanathan briefed members on the geopolitical situation. He also outlined measures to secure petroleum products, LNG, LPG and fertilizers.
The Cabinet Secretary said India had diversified LPG procurement sources. As a result, the country maintained adequate stocks of major petroleum products. He added that sufficient crude oil enabled CPSE refineries to operate above 100% capacity. In addition, the government expanded PNG connections and strengthened gas infrastructure.
The committee also reviewed fertilizer requirements for the upcoming Rabi season. Following the review, the Prime Minister directed officials to ensure uninterrupted fertilizer supplies. He also asked them to explore alternate procurement sources.
CCS West Asia meeting focuses on citizen safety
Meanwhile, the CCS West Asia meeting reviewed the situation of Indian seafarers in conflict zones. The Prime Minister directed officials to create a dedicated support mechanism. The system will provide timely information, emergency assistance and counselling.
Furthermore, Modi instructed authorities to protect Indian citizens and the diaspora. He also stressed greater use of renewable energy, including solar power. Therefore, he called for faster adoption of non-fossil fuel energy sources.
Finally, the Prime Minister directed officials to continue the whole-of-government approach. He asked them to monitor developments regularly. He also instructed them to implement decisions without delay.
