INS Vaghsheer sortie highlights Navy’s operational preparedness
President Murmu became the second President of India to undertake a submarine sortie, after former President Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Officials said the visit reflected the Supreme Commander’s continued engagement with the Armed Forces in operational environments.
In a note written in the visitor’s book, the President described the sortie as a special experience. She said sailing, diving and spending time with the crew gave her confidence in their professionalism and dedication.
Referring to the submarine’s multiple successful firings and complex operations, President Murmu said the performance of INS Vaghsheer demonstrated exceptional preparedness. She added that the discipline, confidence and enthusiasm of the crew assured her that India’s submarines and the Navy remained combat-ready under all circumstances.
The visit followed her earlier interaction with naval operations in November 2024, when she witnessed an operational demonstration aboard the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant.
