Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday said the Telangana government would introduce a universal housing policy to ensure fair allotment of house sites for eligible journalists across the state.
He made the announcement at the Ground Floor lobby of the State Secretariat while replying to questions regarding housing benefits for journalists.
The Chief Minister clarified that the proposed housing policy would not remain limited to selected housing societies or specific journalist groups. Instead, the government planned to introduce an individual allotment process for all eligible applicants.
Moreover, Revanth Reddy assured journalists that the government was committed to maintaining transparency and equality during the allotment process.
“I will personally look into how house sites should be allotted to journalists. Leave it to me,” the Chief Minister said during the interaction.
Journalists also raised concerns regarding the status of those who were not members of registered housing societies. In response, Revanth Reddy said the government would avoid society-based allotments.
He further stated that every eligible working journalist would receive equal consideration under the proposed system. According to officials, discussions regarding eligibility criteria and allotment procedures are still continuing within the government.
Telangana government plans transparent allotment process
The Chief Minister’s remarks gained significance amid ongoing discussions within the media fraternity over housing benefits and plot allotments.
Several journalists have sought clarity on eligibility norms, inclusion of non-society members and the method of allotment. Meanwhile, media representatives continued urging the government to ensure transparency and equal access during implementation.
Revanth Reddy reiterated that the government intended to create a fair system without favouring any particular organisation or association. He added that the housing policy aimed to address concerns raised by journalists across Telangana.
Furthermore, he said the administration planned to resolve long-pending demands related to housing support for media professionals.
The issue of housing benefits for journalists has remained under discussion for several years. However, the latest assurance from the Chief Minister indicated that the government planned to move forward with a broader and more inclusive framework.
