Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao demanded a thorough investigation into alleged irregularities linked to the Singareni coal disappearance and questioned the accountability of both the State and Central governments.
KTR alleged that coal meant to remain in Singareni stockyards was diverted and sold illegally. He claimed the loss to the public sector company was nearly ₹1,600 crore. He urged the Centre to identify those responsible and take immediate action.
The BRS leader said several controversies had emerged around Singareni since the Congress government assumed office in Telangana. He referred to the Naini coal mine tender issue and other alleged irregularities. He also claimed authorities failed to provide satisfactory answers despite repeated questions from the BRS.
According to KTR, records on the Singareni website showed around 40 lakh metric tonnes of coal across multiple mining areas. He named Mandamarri, Srirampur, Ramagundam-I, Ramagundam-II, Bhupalpally, Yellandu and Sathupalli among the listed locations.
Records and stockyard claims in Singareni coal disappearance
KTR alleged that physical verification did not find the coal stocks at the sites mentioned in official records. He claimed authorities had already paid coal cess and income tax on the reported stocks. Therefore, he questioned how the coal could be missing despite its presence in official documents.
He also asked why the Union Coal Ministry and the Comptroller and Auditor General had not carried out inspections so far.
“The coal of Singareni belongs to the people of Telangana. Both the State and Central Governments are collectively endangering the future of this institution,” KTR said.
Furthermore, he called for a comprehensive investigation into the matter. He urged the Union Government to send an all-party delegation to the mines and stockyards for on-ground verification. According to him, such an exercise would reveal the full extent of the alleged irregularities linked to the Singareni coal disappearance.
