Hyderabad: Suspected Ebola patients were shifted from a private hospital to Gandhi Hospital after doctors identified symptoms associated with the virus and noted their recent travel history to African countries.
Health authorities placed the situation under close monitoring and referred the patients to Gandhi Hospital, the state’s nodal centre for handling such cases. Medical teams admitted both individuals to a special isolation ward and began continuous observation.
Doctors reported that the patients were suffering from high fever and other symptoms that required further investigation. However, officials said laboratory tests would determine whether the infection was linked to Ebola or another illness.
The development prompted precautionary measures at the hospital while health officials monitored the patients’ condition.
Suspected Ebola patients undergo laboratory analysis
Medical teams collected blood and saliva samples from the patients for testing. Authorities sent the samples to the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) in Hyderabad for analysis.
Officials expect the test results within 24 to 48 hours. If the preliminary findings indicate Ebola infection, authorities will forward the samples to the National Institute of Virology in Pune for confirmation.
Health officials said they would decide the next course of action after reviewing the laboratory reports. Until then, medical teams will continue monitoring the patients in isolation.
The authorities have not confirmed any Ebola infection and are awaiting scientific verification before making further announcements.
