Telangana budget criticism intensifies as BJP alleges deception

Hyderabad: BJP Legislative Party Leader Aaleti Maheshwar Reddy intensified Telangana budget criticism on March 24, calling the Congress government’s financial plan deceptive.

He described the budget as a “mirage” and alleged that nearly 80% of allocated funds remained unspent. He said Telangana recorded one of the lowest expenditure rates and claimed a CAG report would expose financial mismanagement.

Reddy also alleged that successive governments had pushed the state into heavy debt. He said each newborn carried a liability of about ₹2 lakh due to rising borrowings.

He claimed the government relied on loans from the Reserve Bank of India for most of the year. Therefore, he said this reflected weak financial planning and increasing fiscal stress.

Telangana budget criticism triggers political exchange

Reddy said the government failed to allocate adequate funds for key promises such as the Six Guarantees and Abhayahastham. He also alleged reduced allocations for agriculture, housing and women-focused schemes.

In response, State Minister Seethakka rejected the allegations and questioned the BJP’s stance on farmers’ issues. She accused the Centre of introducing controversial farm laws.

She said the state had already disbursed ₹57,000 crore in loans to women. Therefore, she defended the government’s commitment to welfare programmes.

The exchange highlighted sharp political differences over fiscal priorities. It also underscored continuing Telangana budget criticism from opposition parties.
