Telangana introduces Forest conservation medals for department personnel

Hyderabad: Telangana government introduced Forest conservation medals to recognise Forest department personnel. The initiative aims to encourage staff who protect forest resources under difficult conditions. The announcement coincided with the launch of Vana Mahotsavam-2026.

Under the Telangana State Forest Conservation Meritorious Service Medals Rules–2026, the government created four awards. These awards will honour exceptional service in forest protection and conservation.

The awards include the Telangana Forest Conservation Medal (Bronze), Telangana Best Forest Conservation Medal (Silver), Telangana Distinguished Forest Conservation Medal (Gold) and the Telangana Chief Minister’s Forest Valor Medal (Special Gold).

Recipients will receive cash prizes and monthly incentives. The government fixed the prize amounts at ₹10,000, ₹15,000, ₹20,000 and ₹25,000 respectively.

As a result, the programme will provide official recognition to personnel who make notable contributions to conservation activities.

Forest conservation medals to reward outstanding service

Selection will depend on performance in several key areas. For instance, officials will assess efforts to prevent land encroachments and control forest-related offences.

Additionally, the department will consider contributions to wildlife protection, forest development projects and nursery management. It will also evaluate work related to forest fire prevention.

Furthermore, officials will assess the effective use of Geographic Information Systems and Management Information Systems. Research activities and innovative conservation practices will also receive consideration.

Meanwhile, the government expects the awards to motivate employees and strengthen professional standards within the department.

In addition, the recognition programme will highlight exemplary service and encourage greater commitment to conservation goals.

The new initiative marks an important step for the department. It also reinforces Telangana’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable forest management.
