Hyderabad: The Telangana Railways budget allocation rose sharply to ₹5,454 crore for 2026–27, marking a six-fold increase over the average ₹886 crore sanctioned between 2009 and 2014.
According to Indian Railways, the higher allocation accelerated rail infrastructure development across the State. As a result, projects worth ₹47,984 crore are currently under execution.
These works include new railway lines, station redevelopment projects and modern safety installations. The railways said the expansion aligned with national goals to improve mobility and support economic growth.
Officials said enhanced funding improved connectivity across urban and rural regions. It also strengthened logistics capacity for passengers and freight.
The railways added that sustained investment helped modernise assets and reduce operational constraints. Consequently, project execution gained pace across multiple corridors.
Telangana Railways budget supports stations, trains and safety upgrades
Under the Amrit Station Scheme, 40 stations in Telangana are undergoing redevelopment at a cost of ₹2,015 crore. Works have already been completed at Begumpet, Karimnagar, Warangal and Sri Bala Brahmeswara Jogulamba stations.
In addition, passenger train services expanded across the State. Telangana now operates five pairs of Vande Bharat Express trains and three pairs of Amrit Bharat Express trains.
Officials said these services improved connectivity on high-demand routes. They also reduced travel time and enhanced passenger comfort.
Since 2014, Telangana has added around 900 km of new railway lines. The entire railway network in the State is now fully electrified.
According to Indian Railways, full electrification lowered fuel costs and reduced carbon emissions. It also improved operational efficiency.
Meanwhile, the railways are deploying KAVACH, an indigenous collision-avoidance system, across key routes. The system aims to prevent accidents and enhance operational safety.
Officials said safety upgrades remain a priority alongside capacity expansion. The government expects continued investment to further strengthen rail infrastructure in Telangana.
