Hyderabad: Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) spokesman Amjed Ullah Khan on Saturday submitted a Basheer Bagh memorandum to the GHMC Commissioner and police officials. He met Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner R.V. Karnan, Assistant Commissioner of Police P. Praveen Kumar and Abids Police Station Inspector K. Parashuram. The memorandum concerned recent developments at Basheer Bagh.
MBT General Secretary Syed Mustafa Mehmood and leaders Abdul Rahman, Altaf Naseeb Khan, Sikender Ullah Khan, Mohammed Saber, Shaik Rabbani, Shaik Zafer and Pasha Bhai accompanied Khan. The memorandum raised concerns over the alleged unauthorised installation of a large Sree Ram cut-out at a GHMC park. It also cited the reported construction of a religious structure within the park. In addition, it referred to statements by certain BJP and VHP leaders that Basheer Bagh X Road would henceforth be called “Sree Ram Chowk”.
Khan seeks inspection of GHMC park
Khan urged the GHMC Commissioner to inspect the site immediately and verify whether officials had granted the necessary permissions for the installation and construction. He also asked for action if the inspection finds any unauthorised construction or encroachment on GHMC property.
He further asked the authorities to clarify whether the reported religious construction in the park has official permission. Public parks must remain available for their designated civic purpose, he said.
Question over renaming of Basheer Bagh X Road
Khan questioned how any individual, political party or religious organisation could unilaterally announce a change to the name of a public road. Any official renaming must follow the prescribed legal and administrative procedure, he said. The competent authority must also approve it.
He urged the Hyderabad City Police to examine the statements circulating on social media about the proposed renaming. He asked the police to take appropriate preventive steps so that the matter does not affect public order or communal harmony.
Khan appealed to GHMC and the police to act fairly, impartially and strictly in accordance with law. He also asked them to prevent any unilateral attempt to alter the historic identity of Basheer Bagh.
