Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao criticised the Congress on Wednesday, alleging that the party undermined democracy in the Telangana Assembly following the Speaker’s MLA defection verdict.
In a social media post, KTR accused the Congress of showing disregard for the Constitution and ignoring the authority of the country’s highest courts. Moreover, he said Rahul Gandhi once again demonstrated a lack of respect for constitutional values.
KTR alleged that the Congress mocked democratic principles from the moment Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy approached BRS MLAs. According to him, the party continued the same approach until the Speaker delivered the verdict. As a result, he accused the ruling party of violating democratic norms at every stage.
He further claimed that the defecting MLAs themselves admitted switching parties in the name of development. Despite this, he alleged, Rahul Gandhi continued to protect them, which he described as a clear example of double standards linked to the MLA defection verdict.
MLA defection verdict reflects fear of by-elections, KTR alleges
KTR said carrying the Constitution for photo opportunities did not amount to respecting it. Additionally, he remarked that Rahul Gandhi would remain in history as a leader who failed to honour a law framed during his father’s tenure.
He also alleged that the Congress feared by-elections. According to KTR, this fear stemmed from public anger over what he described as failures during Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s two-year rule. Consequently, he said resentment had become visible across villages during the Panchayat elections.
KTR argued that this fear explained why the Congress avoided action against defecting MLAs. Therefore, he claimed people had already declared them politically unfit, even if the party believed it had shielded them for now. He added that the MLA defection verdict had exposed these contradictions.
