Hyderabad: BRS Working President K. Tarakarama Rao launched a minority welfare calendar for 2026 at Telangana Bhavan on January 8, highlighting the party’s decade-long governance record while criticising the Congress government for failing to deliver on minority promises.
Compiled by senior BRS leader Shaik Abdullah Sohail, the calendar combined the Gregorian and Hijri systems. It also carried quotes from BRS chief and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao. Party leaders said the publication reflected the BRS approach to inclusive governance.
The minority welfare calendar showcased schemes and projects implemented during BRS rule. These included Shaadi Mubarak, distribution of KCR Kits, minority residential schools under TMREIS, and the annual organisation of Iftar parties. In addition, it highlighted infrastructure initiatives such as mosques in the new Secretariat and the restoration of Anees-ul-Ghurba.

Minority welfare calendar recalls schemes and political representation
The minority welfare calendar also highlighted political representation achieved under the BRS government. It noted the appointment of Mahmood Ali as the state’s first Muslim Deputy Chief Minister and later as Home Minister. The calendar further listed the nomination of Muslim MLCs and the appointment of heads to minority-focused corporations.
At the event, BRS leaders described the calendar as a record of empowerment rather than symbolism. They said education, dignity, and equal opportunity formed the core of their welfare agenda. According to them, the initiatives aimed to provide minorities with sustained social and political inclusion.
Speaking to reporters, Abdullah Sohail praised the BRS regime for giving minorities a stronger public voice. However, he sharply criticised the Congress government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. “Not a single promise from the Congress Minorities Declaration has been implemented. Over two years, less than half of the minority welfare budget has been spent,” he said.
Sohail also said the Minority Sub-Plan remained unfulfilled. He added that the promised ₹1,000 crore subsidised loan scheme for minority youth existed only on paper. MLC Dr Dasoju Sravan and other senior BRS leaders attended the launch.
