₹132 crore ROB approved to boost connectivity at Deendayal Port

New Delhi: The government has approved a ₹132.51 crore port connectivity project to improve cargo movement at Deendayal Port in Kandla.

The project involves construction of a Road Over Bridge at a key rail crossing within the port area. Therefore, it aims to remove bottlenecks and ensure smoother logistics operations.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said the initiative aligns with the Sagarmala Programme and PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. He added that it reflects the government’s push for modern and efficient infrastructure.

The bridge is being constructed by Western Railway and is designed to improve seamless cargo evacuation. As a result, it is expected to significantly enhance operational efficiency at the port.

The proposed infrastructure will eliminate delays caused by rail crossings and allow uninterrupted movement of port-bound cargo. In addition, it will help reduce congestion and turnaround time.

Officials said the project was reviewed by the Delegated Investment Board to ensure compliance with modern safety and technical standards.

Moreover, the initiative is part of a broader plan to strengthen multi-modal logistics across the country. It also supports better coordination between transport networks.

The government has directed major ports to map projects on the PM Gati Shakti portal. This step aims to improve planning, coordination and execution of infrastructure works.

Once completed, the project is expected to boost trade efficiency and strengthen India’s maritime logistics chain.
