Hyderabad: Advisor to Telangana Government Mohammed Ali Shabbir said the Congress government placed education priority at the centre of its agenda while addressing an annual day event in Kamareddy on Saturday.
At the Srinidhi Group of Colleges event, he served as chief guest. He distributed graduation certificates to students and watched cultural programmes. Students who excelled across streams received his congratulations.
According to Shabbir Ali, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy directly monitors the Education Department. He said the system weakened over the past ten years. He alleged that the previous regime stopped scholarships and delayed fee reimbursements. He said dues worth Rs 3,500 crore piled up during that period.
However, the Congress government is now clearing these dues in phases. Alongside this move, it is introducing reforms to strengthen the system. In addition, plans are in place to establish a Sports University in Telangana. Authorities will also build integrated educational institutions on 25 acres in each constituency.
Education priority boosts reforms and infrastructure plans
So far, the government has provided around 70,000 jobs, he said. He urged students to aim for positions such as IAS and IPS officers. He also noted that authorities allotted an engineering college to Telangana University after the Congress came to power. He expressed commitment to develop Kamareddy as a study hub.
Earlier, he paid floral tributes to Mahatma Jyotiba Phule on his death anniversary at the municipal premises. Several public representatives attended the programme.
Later, he inspected ongoing works at Indira Gandhi Stadium. The government sanctioned Rs 8.90 crore to upgrade the facility to international standards. He instructed officials to maintain quality and speed during execution.
The upgraded stadium will feature a running track and an indoor arena. It will include courts for volleyball and tennis. Plans also include a gym and a rifle shooting range. He said the government will examine a swimming pool proposal with the Chief Minister.
Work on the project began on Saturday, and officials set a September deadline for completion. Once finished, the stadium will host national-level events. It is expected to attract athletes from other districts.
He said the government aims to promote sports alongside education priority. To support this goal, it plans to encourage rural talent to compete at global platforms like the Olympics.
