Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao accused the Congress government of ruining farmers’ livelihoods and failing to fulfil key promises made to several sections of society in Telangana.
Addressing a party meeting in Kodad on Thursday, Harish Rao alleged that the Congress government failed to implement promises related to jobs, women’s welfare and student fee reimbursement. He claimed unemployed youth, women and minorities were facing difficulties under the present administration.
The former minister said the government did not release benefits through SC and ST Corporations. He also alleged that funds under the SC/ST Sub-Plan were not reaching intended beneficiaries. According to him, welfare schemes introduced during the previous BRS government were discontinued after Congress came to power.
Harish Rao criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and described the administration as one that makes “big promises with little action.” He also accused the government of neglecting farmers across the state.
Congress ruining farmers through delayed procurement
Harish Rao alleged that farmers were facing serious problems in paddy procurement during the current Rabi season. He claimed the Congress government procured only 17 lakh tonnes of paddy despite announcing a target of 90 lakh tonnes.
The BRS leader compared the situation with the previous BRS government during the COVID-19 period. He said the earlier government procured 93 lakh metric tonnes of paddy and ensured uninterrupted implementation of the Rythu Bandhu scheme.
He also referred to irrigation projects undertaken during K. Chandrashekar Rao’s tenure, including the Kaleshwaram project and Phase-2 of the SRSP project. Harish Rao questioned whether Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy had succeeded in bringing Godavari water to Kodad during his earlier tenure.
The senior BRS leader alleged that Congress ruining farmers had become evident through delayed procurement operations and poor welfare implementation. He said farmers were struggling at every stage, from cultivation to selling crops.
“While the Corona virus claimed human lives, this Congress government is destroying the livelihoods of farmers,” Harish Rao alleged.
