New Delhi: Union government on Sunday said fuel availability across India remained stable despite the evolving geopolitical situation in West Asia. Officials from the Ministries of Petroleum and Natural Gas, External Affairs and Chemicals and Fertilizers held a media briefing in New Delhi on supply measures.
Officials said adequate stocks of petrol, diesel and LPG remained available across the country. They urged citizens to avoid panic buying and follow only official information. The government also advised LPG consumers to use digital booking platforms.
According to officials, oil companies delivered around 1.72 crore LPG cylinders during the last four days. Bookings during the same period stood at nearly 1.66 crore cylinders. Authorities said all retail fuel outlets continued normal operations across India.
The Centre said refinery operations continued at high capacity with sufficient crude oil inventories. Officials also increased domestic LPG production to support household demand. In addition, the government reduced excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs. 10 per litre to protect consumers from rising global crude prices.
Fuel availability improves through PNG expansion
Officials said fertilizer stocks remained comfortable ahead of the Kharif 2026 season. The Department of Fertilizers estimated total demand at 390.54 lakh metric tonnes. Current stock levels stood at around 200.12 lakh metric tonnes.
The government added more than 117 lakh metric tonnes of fertilizers through domestic production and imports after the recent crisis situation. Authorities also secured additional DAP and NPK shipments scheduled to arrive during May and June.
Meanwhile, the Centre accelerated PNG expansion across the country. Since March 2026, authorities activated nearly 7.99 lakh PNG connections. They also created infrastructure for another 2.87 lakh connections.
Officials intensified enforcement drives against hoarding and black marketing. During the last four days, authorities conducted more than 6,480 raids and seized over 680 LPG cylinders.
The Ministry of External Affairs said Indian missions in West Asia continued coordinating with community organisations and Indian nationals. Officials said missions were monitoring the regional situation closely to ensure public safety and welfare.
