TDB support boosts indigenous connector technology for aerospace and EV sectors

Bengaluru: Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science and Technology has supported TIEA Connectors Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru, to commercialise indigenous connector technology for aerospace, defence, space and electric mobility applications.

The project aims to strengthen India’s capabilities in developing high-reliability electrical connectors for strategic and emerging sectors. It also supports the country’s goal of achieving technological self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.

TIEA has developed an advanced vibration-resistant connector design that ensures stable power, signal and data transmission under extreme operating conditions. The technology performs effectively during severe vibration, shock and temperature variations.

Indigenous connector technology strengthens strategic manufacturing

The connectors can withstand vibration levels of up to 100G and use high-performance Beryllium Copper alloy with specialised locking systems. Moreover, silver and gold plating improve conductivity, durability and resistance to corrosion.

TIEA has established in-house capabilities for design, engineering, tooling, testing and manufacturing. Consequently, the project will reduce dependence on imported connectors and strengthen domestic supply chains.

The technology will also support India’s expanding electric mobility sector by enabling reliable EV charging connector solutions. Furthermore, it will create globally competitive manufacturing capabilities in advanced electronic components.

TDB Secretary Rajesh Kumar Pathak said indigenous development of critical components strengthens technological self-reliance and improves supply chain resilience. He added that TDB will continue supporting Indian companies developing advanced technologies for strategic sectors.

The promoters of TIEA Connectors said the support will accelerate commercialisation and help expand manufacturing capacity for domestic and international markets.
