Telangana export growth gets boost as Centre urges businesses to tap global markets

Hyderabad: The Department of Commerce urged industries in Telangana to explore international markets and strengthen Telangana export growth as India’s total exports crossed $860 billion in 2025-26.

Speaking at an interaction programme on 12 years of achievements of the Department of Commerce and boosting exports from Telangana, Economic Adviser Priya P. Nair said India’s exports almost doubled from $468 billion in 2013-14 due to policy reforms, market diversification and digital trade initiatives.

She said sectors such as engineering goods, electronics, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, textiles and services contributed significantly to the country’s export expansion despite global economic challenges.

Telangana export growth linked to new opportunities

Trade and Commerce Secretary N. Bhavanisri said India currently exports only 13% of its total spice production, indicating substantial opportunities for expansion in global markets.

She also highlighted the contribution of nearly 40 operational Special Economic Zones across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, which together recorded exports worth around ₹15 lakh crore.

Representatives from Pharmexcil, APEDA, ECGC and DGFT explained opportunities available for exporters, especially MSMEs, through free trade agreements, digital platforms, export incentives and risk protection mechanisms.

Furthermore, speakers encouraged Telangana industries to utilise government schemes, maintain high quality standards and create employment through increased exports.

They said stronger participation in international trade would support India’s vision of becoming a major global trade hub.
