Mumbai: The Ministry of Coal will organise a coal gasification roadshow in Mumbai on June 18 to promote industry participation in surface coal and lignite gasification projects.
The event will be the third such outreach programme under the government’s coal gasification initiative. Earlier roadshows took place in New Delhi and Hyderabad. This time, the Ministry expects strong participation from industry leaders, investors, technology providers and financial institutions.
Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy will attend the event as the chief guest. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will participate as the special guest. In addition, Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey will attend as the guest of honour.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Coal will also join the programme. They will discuss investment opportunities, policy support and technological advancements in coal gasification.
Coal gasification roadshow highlights ₹46,000 crore initiative
Coal gasification converts coal into synthesis gas, also known as syngas. As a result, industries can produce products such as methanol, urea, ammonium nitrate, synthetic natural gas and other chemical feedstocks.
The government views coal gasification as an important tool for energy security. Moreover, the technology can reduce dependence on imported feedstocks and support domestic manufacturing.
To accelerate adoption, the government approved a ₹46,000 crore initiative for surface coal and lignite gasification projects. The programme aims to encourage new investments and expand the use of domestic coal resources.
Furthermore, the Ministry has placed the Request for Proposal in the public domain. Therefore, stakeholders can submit suggestions and comments before implementation.
The Ministry said the coal gasification roadshow will help build partnerships and attract investments. Ultimately, the initiative aims to support industrial growth, energy self-reliance and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
