New Delhi: Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the Amaravati GPRA project for the construction of General Pool Residential Accommodation in the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh.
The project marks the first GPRA development in Amaravati and across Andhra Pradesh. It aims to provide adequate housing for Central government employees and reduce their financial burden. Additionally, it seeks to improve employee welfare and support efficient government administration.
The campus will spread across 17 acres and include 11 residential towers with 1,504 dwelling units ranging from Type II to Type VI. It will also provide basement parking facilities for 1,972 equivalent car spaces.
Amaravati GPRA project to feature green and modern infrastructure
The project will have a total built-up area of 31.30 lakh square feet, including a 9.10 lakh square feet basement area. Moreover, all buildings will follow green construction standards with a minimum GRIHA 4-Star rating.
The campus will comply with the Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code 2024 and Eco-Niwas Samhita 2024. Furthermore, it will include facilities such as a bank, ATM, post office, crèche, community hall, food court, shopping complex and guest house.
The project will ensure accessibility for Divyangjan through a barrier-free environment. It is expected to generate around seven lakh man-days of employment annually during construction and nearly 50,000 man-days during operations.
The Union government has estimated the project cost at ₹1,234.91 crore and will provide funding through budgetary support. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs will execute the project through CPWD, and tender preparations have already begun.
