Bihar Aqua Park foundation stone to be laid in Bhojpur, NFDB centre to open in Patna

New Delhi: Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh and Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary will launch the Bihar Aqua Park project in Bhojpur and open the NFDB Regional Centre in Patna on June 15, 2026.

The Bihar Aqua Park will receive an investment of Rs 31.21 crore under PMMSY. The project will promote modern aquaculture, improve fish production and create new livelihood opportunities.

Bihar has rich inland water resources. These include ponds, reservoirs, floodplain lakes, rivers and canals. The state has emerged as a major centre for inland fisheries.

Bihar Aqua Park supports modern technology and fish farmers

The Centre supported Bihar’s fisheries sector with projects worth Rs 902.84 crore during the last 11 years. In addition, it provided Rs 579.72 crore under PMMSY for infrastructure and technology.

These investments helped Bihar increase fish production significantly. Consequently, the state moved from ninth to fourth position among inland fish-producing states. Bihar now supplies nearly 89,600 metric tonnes of fish to neighbouring states every year.

The Bihar Aqua Park at Vanasaur Fish Seed Farm will house hatcheries, biofloc systems, RAS units, feed facilities, laboratories and a training hostel. It will also provide quality fish seed and practical training to farmers.

The NFDB Regional Centre in Patna will guide fish farmers and entrepreneurs. Moreover, it will encourage biofloc farming, cage culture and precision aquaculture practices.

The government expects these initiatives to improve productivity, raise incomes and generate more jobs. Therefore, the projects will strengthen Bihar’s fisheries ecosystem through better infrastructure and knowledge support.
