Hyderabad: BRS MLC Sravan Dasoju opposed the proposed Bandaravirala dumpsite, alleging it would damage the Musi River catchment area and threaten the health and livelihoods of residents in 16 villages of Rangareddy district.
Addressing a protest and siege of the Rangareddy Collectorate, Dasoju questioned the government’s proposal to convert 494 acres of government land into a garbage disposal site. Former Ibrahimpatnam MLA Manchireddy Kishan Reddy led the protest.
Dasoju claimed the land falls within the Musi catchment area. Therefore, he warned that dumping waste there could contaminate water flowing into the river. He also questioned the government’s Musi rejuvenation initiative while proposing a dumpsite in the same catchment.
Bandaravirala dumpsite faces fresh opposition
Drawing a comparison with the Jawaharnagar landfill, Dasoju alleged that nearby residents had suffered environmental and health problems. Moreover, he claimed the government was attempting to create another Jawaharnagar near the Outer Ring Road.
The BRS leader further alleged that authorities were moving ahead without mandatory Gram Sabha approvals or environmental impact assessments. Consequently, he termed the proposal anti-democratic and accused the Congress government of ignoring legal procedures and local objections.
Dasoju also criticised Ibrahimpatnam MLA Malreddy Ranga Reddy and Bhongir MLA Kumbham Anil Kumar Reddy. He alleged that both legislators had failed to support the affected villagers.
Meanwhile, he announced that the agitation against the Bandaravirala dumpsite would continue under the leadership of K. Chandrashekar Rao and K. T. Rama Rao until the proposal is withdrawn.
Thousands of villagers, including women, sarpanches, ward members and BRS workers, joined the protest. They demanded that the government cancel the proposed dumping yard.
