Green Nagpur initiative to plant 25 lakh trees, says Nitin Gadkari

Nagpur: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that the Green Nagpur initiative will plant 25 lakh trees across Nagpur city and district to promote environmental conservation.

Addressing a press conference on 12 years of the Central Government, Gadkari said the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign will involve schools, universities, voluntary groups and other organisations.

He said the government will provide two to three-metre-tall saplings. Moreover, local institutions will take responsibility for plantation and conservation activities.

Green Nagpur initiative drives development projects

Gadkari said the Revenue and Forest Departments will conduct district mapping with support from the Nagpur Remote Sensing Centre.

He highlighted welfare schemes and said Jan Dhan, Ujjwala and Ayushman Bharat have benefited crores of citizens.

Furthermore, he said Mudra Yojana, Startup India and Skill India have created opportunities for entrepreneurs and young people.

The Union Minister also reviewed Nagpur’s key projects, including market redevelopment, Metro expansion, AIIMS, IIM, IIIT and other public infrastructure facilities.

Additionally, Gadkari said the Road Transport Ministry plans 1,600 driving training centres across the country. Around 10 lakh people have already completed training at existing centres.

He added that the Nagpur-Hyderabad Expressway will reduce travel time to about three and a half hours. He also said authorities will open the Indora-Dighori flyover on August 1, 2026.
