Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced a comprehensive plan to transform Hyderabad into a traffic-free city. He said the government prepared a network of underpasses, elevated corridors and surface roads. Moreover, he outlined measures to ease congestion across major zones.
He addressed the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Urban Affairs and Housing at the Secretariat. During the meeting, he explained that road widening alone would not solve traffic problems. Therefore, the government adopted a multi-pronged strategy.
The Chief Minister said the plan included multi-level parking facilities across the city. In addition, the government would strengthen multi-modal transport systems. These steps aim to reduce congestion and improve mobility.
Officials attended the meeting, including Standing Committee Chairperson M. Srinivas Reddy and Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy. They reviewed ongoing urban development initiatives. Furthermore, the Chief Minister briefed them on future infrastructure plans.
Traffic-free city plan focuses on integrated transport and zoning
Revanth Reddy said rapid urbanisation created new infrastructure challenges. Consequently, the government framed long-term development models. He referred to the CURE, PURE and RARE economic zoning framework.
According to the model, areas inside the Outer Ring Road will function as the Core Urban Region Economy. This zone will focus on services. Meanwhile, the region between the Outer Ring Road and Regional Ring Road will support manufacturing activities.
Beyond the Regional Ring Road, the Rural Agriculture Region Economy will promote agriculture and allied sectors. Thus, the strategy links urban growth with rural development.
The Chief Minister also mentioned the Telangana Rising 2047 Master Plan. He said the plan guides long-term state development. Additionally, it aligns infrastructure growth with future urban demand.
The government will introduce electric buses into the RTC fleet in Hyderabad. Moreover, authorities will retrofit existing auto-rickshaws within the CURE zone into electric vehicles. These conversions will take place free of cost.
Revanth Reddy also discussed measures to reduce air pollution. He outlined plans for the Musi Riverfront development while preserving Hyderabad’s cultural identity. Furthermore, officials presented updates on drinking water supply and urban infrastructure projects.
The Chief Minister requested greater cooperation from the Central Government. He said support would accelerate key development projects. In response, committee members appreciated the Musi River Rejuvenation Project and other initiatives.
Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and senior officials attended the meeting. They participated in discussions on infrastructure, mobility and urban reforms. The government reiterated its commitment to building a sustainable and efficient city.
