India assures fuel and fertilizer availability amid West Asia crisis

New Delhi: Central government said fuel availability and fertilizer supplies remained stable despite the evolving situation in West Asia. Officials reviewed energy, maritime and supply chain preparedness during an inter-ministerial media briefing held in New Delhi.

The government said fertilizer stocks remained comfortable for the Kharif 2026 season. The total stock stood at 196.65 lakh metric tonnes against a requirement of 383.9 lakh metric tonnes. Farmers have already purchased 102.78 lakh metric tonnes of chemical fertilizers, nearly 27% of the seasonal requirement.

India strengthened fertilizer security through domestic production and imports. The country added about 163.01 lakh metric tonnes of fertilizers after the crisis period. The government also secured supplies from multiple countries and initiated a global tender for procuring 17 lakh metric tonnes of urea.

Measures to maintain fuel availability and supply stability

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said all refineries were operating at high capacity with adequate crude reserves. Petrol and diesel stocks were available across the country, while domestic LPG production was increased to support household demand.

Natural gas supply to operating urea plants reached around 100% of their average consumption over the previous six months. The government also ensured full supplies to domestic PNG consumers and CNG transport services.

During the last four days, oil companies delivered about 1.84 crore domestic LPG cylinders against bookings of around 1.66 crore cylinders. Authorities increased Delivery Authentication Code-based deliveries to prevent diversion and improve transparency.

The government directed states and Union Territories to intensify monitoring against black marketing and unauthorized diversion of petroleum products. Enforcement agencies registered several cases and seized illegal fuel stocks during recent inspections.

Maritime operations continued without disruption. The LNG carrier DISHA carrying about 62,370 metric tonnes of LNG safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz and is expected to reach India on June 18, 2026.

Officials advised citizens to avoid panic buying of petrol, diesel and LPG. They urged people to rely only on official information and use energy resources responsibly.
