Indian Railways approves Kavach project worth Rs 201 crore for Ambala Division

New Delhi: Indian Railways approved the Kavach project worth Rs 201 crore for the remaining Broad Gauge sections of the Ambala Division under Northern Railway.

The project will cover 811 route kilometres. It will strengthen safety systems on important railway corridors across Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.

The approved routes include Ambala Cantonment–Ludhiana, Kalka–Chandigarh–New Morinda–Sahnewal, Sirhind–Daulatpur Chowk, Rajpura–Bathinda–Shri Ganganagar and Ludhiana–Dhuri–Jakhal sections.

Kavach project to strengthen train safety on major routes

Kavach is an indigenous Automatic Train Protection system. It helps prevent signal violations and controls train speed during unsafe conditions. Moreover, the system applies automatic brakes when required and reduces the possibility of train collisions.

The routes under the project carry significant passenger and freight traffic. Therefore, the installation of Kavach will improve operational reliability and enhance safety for rail users.

Indian Railways approved the work under its umbrella programme for expanding Kavach with an LTE-based communication network on remaining routes.

Furthermore, the Railways is expanding the safety technology across high-density and strategically important corridors. The initiative aims to improve safety, increase reliability and support efficient railway operations across the country.
