India reviews West Asia crisis preparedness, says fuel, fertiliser and maritime supplies remain stable

New Delhi: The Centre reviewed preparations amid the West Asia crisis and confirmed stable fuel supplies, fertiliser availability and essential services across India.

Officials from the Petroleum, Shipping, External Affairs and Fertilisers ministries shared updates during an inter-ministerial briefing. They discussed energy security, maritime safety and support for Indian citizens abroad.

The government confirmed that all 20 Indian crew members aboard MT Jalveer remained safe after a security incident near Shinas Port in Oman. Moreover, Indian officials worked with Omani authorities to secure their rescue.

The Centre expressed condolences over the death of three Indian crew members in the MT Settebello attack. It also directed the Seaman Welfare Fund Society to provide ₹10 lakh assistance to each family.

West Asia crisis affects maritime and energy monitoring

India maintained comfortable fertiliser stocks and ensured supplies exceeded current requirements. Additionally, domestic production and imports added 153.79 lakh metric tonnes of fertilisers after the crisis.

All refineries continue to operate at high capacity. Furthermore, authorities maintained sufficient petrol and diesel stocks across the country.

The government activated 9.42 lakh PNG connections since March 2026 and created infrastructure for another 3.12 lakh connections. It also sold 1.91 lakh five-kilogram free trade LPG cylinders during the last three days.

Meanwhile, DG Shipping facilitated the return of more than 3,537 Indian seafarers from Gulf nations. Indian missions in West Asia remain alert and continue assistance through round-the-clock helplines.

The Centre urged citizens to avoid panic buying of fuel. Instead, it advised people to follow official updates and use energy responsibly.
