Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena president Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Saturday accused both the BRS and Congress governments of failing the Palamuru-Rangareddy project and alleged that they compromised the scheme for commissions.
She made the remarks at the “Palamuru-Rangareddy Project Sadhana Sabha” held at Jilled Chowdari Guda in Rangareddy district. She claimed that both parties misused irrigation projects for political and financial gains.
Kavitha alleged that the previous BRS government spent ₹33,000 crore on the project but failed to supply irrigation water even to 33 acres. She said the expenditure did not translate into visible benefits for farmers.
She also accused leaders of changing the project design in coordination with contractors. According to her, officials shifted the water source from Jurala to Srisailam, which she described as a serious mistake.
Palamuru-Rangareddy project faces design and funding allegations
Kavitha claimed that the design change led to disputes with Andhra Pradesh. She said the alteration harmed the project’s progress and triggered political conflicts. She further alleged that corruption influenced key decisions during implementation.
She targeted the Congress government as well, stating that it failed to restart major works. She said the administration had not shown significant progress on the project so far.
Kavitha alleged that the Congress government cleared bills worth ₹6,000 crore under the project and collected commissions. She also claimed that party legislators benefited from those alleged payments.
She warned that her party would launch a padayatra if authorities did not resume works before Dasara. She stated that sustained public pressure would force action on the issue.
Kavitha promised that her party would provide irrigation water to 10 lakh acres if voted to power. She also announced plans to establish a Water Commission to address irrigation concerns.
She urged people to seek national status for the Palamuru-Rangareddy project and called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider the demand.
