Khet Bachao Abhiyan reaches 2.71 crore citizens nationwide

New Delhi: Indian Council of Agricultural Research said the Khet Bachao Abhiyan reached 2.71 crore citizens across the country through campaigns promoting soil health and balanced fertiliser use.

The nationwide campaign, conducted under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education, focused on sustainable farming and scientific nutrient management practices.

Officials said the Khet Bachao Abhiyan organised 12,979 awareness camps and seminars that directly engaged 7.17 lakh farmers across different states.

The campaign also conducted 3,145 training programmes in which 1,11,509 participants took part. In addition, experts organised 7,928 field demonstrations on green manuring, bio-fertilisers and organic nutrient sources.

Authorities stated that 4,916 Janpratinidhi Sammelans involved Panchayat representatives, Sarpanches and Zila Parishad members to improve grassroots participation.

The campaign also held 9,609 meetings with fertiliser input dealers to spread awareness on balanced fertiliser usage among farmers.

Khet Bachao Abhiyan promotes sustainable farming practices

According to ICAR, the campaign connected with 8,383 farmer-members through farmer producer organisations, self-help groups and farmer interest groups.

Officials displayed publicity material at 53,616 locations to improve awareness about soil conservation and nutrient management practices.

The campaign further expanded its reach through 1,144 media broadcasts, including 944 radio programmes and 200 television and digital broadcasts.

Authorities said social media outreach under the Khet Bachao Abhiyan helped the initiative connect with 2.712 crore citizens nationwide.

The programme aims to encourage soil test-based fertiliser use and reduce excessive dependence on chemical fertilisers to protect long-term soil fertility.
