Arham Adil flags impact of LPG price hike on vendors and households

Hyderabad: Congress leader Arham Adil on Saturday said the LPG price hike had intensified financial stress on small businesses and households, urging the Centre to review the decision.

He stated that the increase came when families and vendors already faced rising living costs. Moreover, he questioned the timing of the revision, citing earlier remarks by Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri that no hike was under consideration.

Adil also referred to statements by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who had warned of a possible increase after elections. He said recent developments appeared to confirm those concerns.

According to him, oil marketing companies faced financial strain. However, he argued that authorities passed the burden directly to consumers instead of addressing structural issues. He added that global crude prices had eased in recent weeks, yet domestic users saw no relief.

He said the sudden increase shocked small vendors and eateries that depend on LPG for daily operations. Therefore, many businesses struggled to absorb rising input costs.

Adil said food vendors in Nampally, Ameerpet, Tolichowki, Yousufguda and Kukatpally reported growing difficulties. In several cases, vendors paid higher rates due to supply issues, while customers resisted price increases.

He noted that earlier hikes had forced some eateries to shut temporarily. Meanwhile, others shifted to alternatives such as wood-based cooking to manage costs.

He added that frequent price fluctuations created uncertainty for small enterprises. As a result, business owners found it difficult to plan operations or maintain stable pricing.

Adil urged the Union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reassess the hike. He also called for a transparent pricing mechanism that reflects global trends while protecting consumers.
