National DMF Summit inaugurated by Kishan Reddy in Delhi

New Delhi: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy inaugurated the National DMF Summit in New Delhi on March 23, highlighting the need for equitable benefits to mining-affected communities.

The two-day National DMF Summit brought together policymakers and stakeholders to discuss effective use of District Mineral Foundation funds. The event focused on sustainable and inclusive development in mining regions.

In his address, the minister said local communities contributed significantly to natural resource extraction. Therefore, he stressed the need to prioritise environmental protection, livelihood restoration and overall development.

An exhibition held alongside the summit showcased initiatives from various states. It highlighted the role of DMF funds in transforming mining-affected areas and improving living conditions.

National DMF Summit focuses on fund utilisation and reforms

Officials said the summit theme centred on outcome-based use of funds in Aspirational District and Block Programme areas. It emphasised transparency, convergence and monitoring in project execution.

During the session, officials said around 200 mining blocks were auctioned in the current financial year. They noted that reforms aimed to ensure benefits reached last-mile beneficiaries.

Experts highlighted governance tools such as the Panchayat Advancement Index, which tracks development indicators. In addition, NITI Aayog representatives stressed convergence, collaboration and efficient use of resources.

States including Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand shared best practices. They focused on improving implementation and maximising development outcomes.

The summit aimed to strengthen coordination among stakeholders and improve the utilisation of DMF funds. Officials said it would support inclusive growth in mining-affected regions.
