National Quantum Mission achieves over half its targets in three years

New Delhi: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said the National Quantum Mission has achieved more than half of its targeted outcomes within three years of its launch, highlighting India’s rapid progress in frontier technologies.

Addressing a media conclave on Friday, the Minister said Artificial Intelligence, quantum technology, space and nuclear energy would shape future economic growth, national security and global competitiveness. He added that India is advancing alongside leading nations in several strategic technology domains.

Dr. Singh said the mission has already delivered key milestones in quantum-secure communication. He noted that the technology will strengthen defence, cybersecurity, strategic communications and the protection of sensitive information. He added that India is also making steady progress in quantum computing and related research.

The Minister said Artificial Intelligence is becoming essential across governance, healthcare, education, industry, research and public service delivery. Therefore, the government continues to invest in digital infrastructure, computing capacity, data resources and reliable energy systems to support future growth.

National Quantum Mission strengthens innovation ecosystem

Dr. Singh said policy reforms under Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expanded opportunities for scientific research, innovation and entrepreneurship. He added that the opening of the space sector has encouraged startups, while reforms in the nuclear sector are expected to attract fresh investment and technological collaboration.

He said nuclear energy will play a vital role in meeting the growing demand for advanced computing, data centres and digital services. At the same time, it will support India’s clean energy transition.

The Minister described the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 as a transformational reform that encourages multidisciplinary learning and research. Moreover, he said the policy is creating a stronger innovation ecosystem by allowing students to pursue careers based on their interests and abilities.

Dr. Singh also said India is moving from a government-led innovation model to one driven by collaboration among academia, industry, startups and private enterprises. He urged young people to embrace scientific learning and contribute to India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
