Hyderabad: BRS general secretary R.S. Praveen Kumar on Thursday, 29 October, alleged irregularities in TOMCOM recruitment, claiming that unemployed youth paid Rs 4.10 lakh each for jobs in Germany advertised as free of cost. He accused the Congress government and Minister Vivek Venkataswamy of irregularities involving overseas employment placements through the Telangana Overseas Manpower Company (TOMCOM). He made the allegations at a press conference at Telangana Bhavan.
Praveen Kumar claimed that approximately 200 candidates had paid money for the employment opportunities. However, he alleged that at least 10 of them had not travelled to Germany. He also questioned the recruitment charges and the agreements the candidates signed during the placement process.
The BRS leader asked why candidates had to pay such amounts when the recruitment advertisements described the opportunities as free. He raised concerns about the handling of overseas placements and the financial burden on unemployed candidates. TOMCOM, he noted, was established to protect jobseekers from recruitment agents, and he questioned the arrangements involving it.
Agreements with Fair Street raise questions
Praveen Kumar further alleged that candidates had to sign agreements with a company named Fair Street. According to him, the agreements did not mention TOMCOM, even though the placements are linked to the government-backed overseas recruitment organisation. He questioned why TOMCOM’s name was missing from the documents. Concerns also arose, he said, over the collection of money through recruitment arrangements involving a private company.
He referred to TOMCOM’s stated objective of protecting overseas employment seekers from recruitment agents. Praveen Kumar asked whether the alleged payment arrangements were consistent with that objective. Meanwhile, he criticised Minister Vivek Venkataswamy’s overseas visits in connection with TOMCOM. He raised the issue while accusing the Congress government of irregularities in overseas recruitment.
The source account did not include responses from the minister, TOMCOM, Fair Street or the Telangana government.
