New Delhi: DRDO successfully developed India’s first indigenous Turbo Jet Engine in the 350 kg thrust class. Azad Engineering manufactured and assembled the engine before delivering it to the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE) on July 22.
GTRE designed the expendable Turbo Jet Engine and selected Hyderabad-based Azad Engineering as its industry partner. Moreover, the project marked a major milestone for India’s aerospace and defence manufacturing ecosystem.
The delivery completed years of design, precision engineering and advanced manufacturing. Therefore, the achievement highlighted close cooperation between DRDO scientists and the Indian defence industry.
Defence Secretary and DRDO Chairman Rajesh Kumar Singh praised the partnership between GTRE and Azad Engineering. He said the collaboration transformed a long-term vision into a significant achievement for the country’s defence sector.
Turbo Jet Engine strengthens indigenous aerospace capability
GTRE officials received the engine from Azad Engineering Chief Executive Officer Rakesh Chopdar during a formal handover ceremony. Distinguished Scientist and Director General (Aeronautical Systems) Dr K. Rajalakshmi Menon and GTRE Director Dr S.V. Ramanamurty accepted the delivery.
DRDO said only a handful of countries have mastered jet engine technology because it requires exceptional precision, advanced metallurgy and complex manufacturing. Furthermore, the successful development reflects India’s growing capability to produce advanced aerospace systems.
The organisation said the project demonstrates the increasing strength of India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem. Finally, it said the indigenous Turbo Jet Engine will support the country’s long-term goal of achieving greater self-reliance in critical defence technologies.
