Harish Rao urges workers to join Singareni Karmikula Garjana in Ramagundam

Hyderabad: Former minister T. Harish Rao has urged Singareni workers to attend the Singareni Karmikula Garjana in Ramagundam on October 14. He also called on residents of coal belt areas to join the event. Harish Rao is the BRS Legislature Party Deputy Floor Leader.

BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao will attend the meeting as chief guest, Harish Rao said. The appeal followed a meeting at Telangana Bhavan. He met representatives of the Telangana Boggu Ghani Karmika Sangham and public representatives from Singareni areas.

Harish Rao alleged that Singareni Collieries Company Limited has faced several problems since the Congress government came to power. He said the issues have affected workers as well as officers. According to him, even officials had taken to the roads to protest over their concerns.

Workers seek profit share and pending payments

Rao said the main demands include declaring Singareni’s profits and paying workers their rightful share. Workers also want dependent jobs for eligible candidates through medical boards. In addition, he called for immediate Singareni elections and clearance of pending payments.

Singareni traditionally announced profits and paid workers their share before Dussehra, Rao said. With the festival approaching, he alleged that the government has neither declared the company’s profits nor announced the workers’ share.

Profit decline and coal output questioned

Harish Rao also questioned the decline in Singareni’s reported profits. He said the company earned ₹2,022 crore in 2022–23, ₹4,712 crore in 2023–24 and ₹6,394 crore in 2024–25. The current financial year’s profit remains undeclared, he said. Based on information with the BRS, he claimed it might not cross ₹1,800 crore.

Rao attributed the alleged decline to delays in tenders and the introduction of the Site Visit Certificate condition. He also blamed the award of contracts at higher prices. Furthermore, he alleged that some works went to people close to the ruling party. He demanded a proper inquiry into those allegations.

Rao also claimed that coal production had declined from 70 million tonnes in 2023–24 to 58 million tonnes in 2025–26. The BRS leader said the decline amounted to around 12 million tonnes. He asked Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka to explain why coal production had increased during the BRS government but declined after the Congress government took office.

The Singareni Karmikula Garjana on October 14 will focus on issues concerning Singareni workers and the coal belt areas, according to Rao.
