Maoist surrender in Telangana: AOB commander, 35 others lay down arms

Hyderabad: In a significant breakthrough for Telangana’s anti-extremism efforts, Andhra–Odisha Border (AOB) commander Errolla Ravi and 35 Maoists surrendered before the state’s Director General of Police on Thursday.

Senior officials confirmed that the mass surrender was the result of sustained efforts by state police and intelligence units to persuade Maoist cadres to renounce violence and reintegrate into society. The surrender took place in the presence of top police officials, who assured the former insurgents of full support under the government’s rehabilitation policy.

Errolla Ravi, identified as a senior leader in the AOB region, had long been active in core Maoist operations. The 35 others included members of armed squads, logistics units, and local Maoist wings.

Officials stated that this development reflected the cumulative impact of counterinsurgency operations and welfare initiatives launched across vulnerable areas. The surrendering cadres, according to police, conveyed their intent to rebuild their lives within the framework of law.

Police said the surrendered individuals would now undergo rehabilitation that includes financial assistance, livelihood support, and skill development training, as outlined in the state’s official policy.

The Director General of Police reiterated the government’s commitment to offering a peaceful alternative to violence. Authorities also called upon remaining Maoist cadres to surrender and take part in the structured reintegration programme.

Officials emphasised that the Maoist surrender in Telangana sent a clear message: the state prioritises reform and rehabilitation but remains firm against continued insurgency.
