Kaleshwaram repairs deadline set for December by CM

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy set a December deadline for Kaleshwaram repairs and directed officials to expedite restoration of the three barrages under the project.

He issued the directive during a review meeting at his Jubilee Hills residence with Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy. He asked officials to follow National Dam Safety Authority guidelines while executing the works.

The Chief Minister called for a clear action plan and continuous monitoring. He also instructed all agencies to remain alert and improve coordination to meet the Kaleshwaram repairs deadline.

Officials were told to complete tests and sample collection through the Central Water and Power Research Station before the monsoon. In addition, he ordered the formation of a joint team with the Irrigation Department, CWPRS, construction firms and design consultants.

He further directed that Central Water Commission representatives be involved at every stage. Engineers informed him that the issue was not limited to the sunken pillar at Medigadda.

They said the entire 1.6 km stretch required a detailed technical study. Therefore, the Chief Minister ordered a special plan to drill 500 borewells near Medigadda and mobilise machinery quickly.

He also instructed officials to finalise repair designs and prepare a work schedule aligned with the Kaleshwaram repairs deadline. Moreover, he assured that funds would be made available and stressed timely execution.

In addition, he directed officials to set up a base camp at Medigadda to monitor progress closely. He said he would visit the site once work begins.

Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, Irrigation Secretary Sridhar, CM Secretary Manik Raj and senior officials attended the meeting.
