Chinna Reddy demands apology over Tejasvi Surya remarks

Hyderabad: State Planning Board Vice Chairman G. Chinna Reddy demanded an unconditional apology from BJP MP Tejasvi Surya over the Surya remarks row on Telangana’s formation.

He said the remarks insulted a democratic process and hurt public sentiment. He also accused the BJP of maintaining an anti-Telangana position over the years. The controversy began after Surya compared the bifurcation of Telangana with the India-Pakistan partition.

Chinna Reddy strongly objected to the comparison. He termed it offensive and unacceptable in a democratic setup. “My blood boils seeing BJP’s attitude,” he said while addressing reporters. He added that the party had consistently opposed Telangana statehood during the movement.

He said the Telangana movement saw participation from all sections of society. Students, employees, and civil groups played a key role in the agitation. He also noted that the movement reflected a long-standing demand for self-governance.

According to him, the formation of Telangana followed a constitutional process. He said Sonia Gandhi led the political decision that enabled statehood. Parliament later approved the bifurcation after detailed debate and procedure.

Political fallout grows in Surya remarks row

Chinna Reddy criticised BJP leaders from Telangana for not responding to the issue. He questioned their silence and commitment to the state’s interests. Moreover, he said the party must clearly state its stand on Telangana’s formation.

He demanded that Tejasvi Surya issue an apology in Parliament. He added that such remarks could create unnecessary political tensions. At the same time, he said responsible leaders must respect historical struggles and public sentiment.

Chinna Reddy also said the silence of local BJP leaders raised serious concerns. He argued that their response did not reflect the aspirations of Telangana people. He urged them to clarify their position without delay.

The Surya remarks row has triggered wider political debate in the state. Leaders from different parties have begun reacting to the issue. Observers expect further statements as the controversy develops.
