SHe-Box 2.0 strengthens workplace safety for women

Hyderabad: The Government of India said SHe-Box 2.0 has strengthened workplace safety for women by providing a single-window digital platform to register and track complaints of sexual harassment.

The initiative operates under Mission Shakti, the Centre’s flagship programme for women’s safety, security and empowerment. Through this framework, the government aims to improve access to support systems and strengthen legal safeguards for women.

Launched on August 29, 2024, the upgraded platform supports women working in organised, unorganised, public and private sectors. Moreover, it enables complainants to monitor the status of their cases through a transparent system.

The government said safe workplaces remain essential for increasing women’s participation in the workforce. Therefore, it has introduced several policy measures to improve safety, dignity and equal opportunities.

SHe-Box 2.0 replaces the earlier version with a more comprehensive and accountable digital mechanism. In addition, it improves coordination among authorities responsible for implementing the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013.

SHe-Box 2.0 enhances monitoring and accessibility

The platform includes several governance features designed to strengthen complaint redressal. For instance, it allows the onboarding of State and District Nodal Officers for decentralised monitoring.

It also maintains a repository of Internal Committees across government offices and private organisations. Furthermore, the system integrates Local Committees at the district level to improve access for women who do not have Internal Committees at their workplaces.

The government said the portal provides a secure and confidential environment for reporting incidents. As a result, women can file complaints without fear of stigma or retaliation.

To improve accessibility, the portal is available in 22 languages, including Hindi and English. Consequently, women from diverse regions can access the service more easily.

Officials described the initiative as an important digital governance intervention under Mission Shakti. They added that the platform reflects the government’s continued commitment to building safer and more inclusive workplaces for women across the country.
