Azharuddin hails Kaka Venkatswamy legacy of service to poor

Hyderabad: Minorities Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin has hailed the Kaka Venkatswamy legacy of service to the homeless, the working class and other marginalised sections of society. He said working for these groups was the hallmark of the late leader’s public life and political legacy.

Azharuddin said Venkatswamy’s commitment to the welfare of workers and the poor continues through his family. His children, Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy and G. Vinod, are carrying it forward. So is his grandson and MP, Vamshi Krishna Venkatswamy.

The Minister spoke on Monday at a programme organised at Ravindra Bharathi. The event marked the 97th birth anniversary of Kaka Venkatswamy.

Azharuddin recalled his association with Venkatswamy. He said his own father, who was born on October 6, often spoke to him about the late leader. His father admired Venkatswamy’s commitment to the welfare of the poor and working people.

Kaka Venkatswamy legacy includes housing for nearly 80,000 families

The Minister said Venkatswamy reached a remarkable milestone by facilitating housing for nearly 80,000 poor and homeless families. His work for the economically weaker and marginalised sections earned him immense popularity and respect among the poor, he said.

“It is remarkable that Kaka Venkatswamy took up such a large-scale housing initiative for the poor decades ago. Today, our government is providing Indiramma Indlu to poor and deserving families, but Kaka Venkatswamy had already demonstrated this commitment to housing for the underprivileged much earlier,” Azharuddin said.

He said the Kaka Venkatswamy legacy of a grassroots-oriented approach and commitment to workers and the poor had significantly influenced the course of politics. That influence reached not only Telangana but also the national level.

“Many young politicians continue to draw inspiration from Kaka Venkatswamy’s style of functioning and his commitment to people,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Azharuddin paid floral tributes to Venkatswamy at his statue on Tank Bund. Ministers Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy and Ponnam Prabhakar joined him.
